Gifted & Talented
AISD is committed to providing a world-class education to all students. Gifted and talented students receive instruction with an emphasis on depth and complexity, project-based learning, and opportunities to make connections locally and globally.     Identified gifted and talented students demonstrate abilities in original and creative thinking, exceptionally high achievement, and are self-directed learners. Gifted and talented students often pursue an area of interest or passion through Independent Studies and the Texas Performance Standards Projects.

GIST/Multi-Tiered Support System
Each campus will have a General Intervention Support Team (GIST).  The team is a student and staff assistance process.  The purpose of the team is to provide a knowledgeable group of professionals to consider the special needs of any student on the campus who may be in need of special assistance.  This may include tutorial, extra help, Title I services, crisis intervention, dyslexia services, gifted and talented services, services for students with limited English proficiency, special education, and other special services of either a temporary or permanent nature.

Contact your child’s teacher for more information.

ESL
School districts in Texas are required by state law to assess the English language proficiency of all students whose Home Language Survey indicates that the home language is a language other than English. If a child demonstrates limited English proficiency on the assessment, s/he will be eligible for enrollment in the English as a Second Language (ESL). The goal of the program is to enable English language learners to become competent in the reading, listening, speaking, and writing of the English language through the development of literacy and academic skills in grade level content areas.

For more information contact: Leigh Lowe (325)762-2823 or your campus counselor.

Counseling
Academic Counseling -Elementary and Middle / Junior High School Grade Levels
The school counselor is available to students and parents to talk about the importance of post secondary education and how best to plan for post secondary education, including appropriate courses to consider and financial aid availability and requirements.
Personal Counseling- (All Grade Levels)
The school counselor is available to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns, including such areas as social, family, emotional or mental health issues, or substance abuse. A student who wishes to meet with the school counselor should complete a referral form.  As a parent, if you are concerned about your child’s mental or emotional health, please speak with the school counselor for a list of resources that may be of assistance.

Foster Care Youth
Students in foster care must be provided with access to a free and appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as provided for other children and youth. In order to provide equal access, State educational agencies (SEAs) and local educational agencies (LEAs) should remove all barriers that could cause students to miss critical learning opportunities. Barriers could include policies and procedures that have unintended consequences for children and youth in foster care.

For more information contact Leigh Lowe (325) 762-2823.
